A few of us here at Cyber Copy News worked at iRobot, so we know very well just how deadly errant socks are autonomous vacuums. It is great that Roborock is reaching out to help this problem. Down time is the foe of any autonomous systems company and when a vacuum sucks up a sock, cord, or dog duke, it means the robot is not working until a human intervenes — or moves out in the last case.
Having a mobile manipulator to pick up around the house before a vacuum is deployed is an oft desired feature. However, adding a mobile manipulator to a robot vacuum adds an infinitude of new ways the robot can get stuck and therefore experience downtime requiring human intervention. I'm excited to see the reviews of this device after a few months in the field. Good luck Roborock! A helping hand is great! Just don't pick up the dog duke!
